Who is Buddy Roe?
BuddyRoe's, a locals' hangout located in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, is like a mini vacation. Its tropical setting under a blanket of old oaks, a great (smoker-friendly) deck out back, two bars, dance floor, extraordinary entertainment, and fantastic local shrimp makes BuddyRoe's Shrimp Shack a must stop when in the Charleston area.
Owners Ronnie and Kim Johnson are always on site creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for Charleston locals and visitors alike.
Ronnie, a dynamic entertainer with a charismatic personality usually performs three nights a week. His musical talent and interaction with the audience guarantees a festive and memorable experience for all ages. Ronnie was Wild Dunes' featured entertainer for 14 years. He has performed from Charleston to New York where he entertained along with Chuck Berry for People Magazine. Other stops include LA, Chicago, Atlanta, London, and even an expedition ship cruising to Antarctica. Ronnie even opened for Tom Jones when he was in town. What a rare treat to find this caliber of entertainment in the Charleston area! And you never know who’s going to join Ronnie on stage, with friends like his in the music industry, don’t be surprised if you see Jeff Cook from the legendary country group Alabama on stage; he’s a regular when he’s in town.
His wife, Kim, will welcome you at BuddyRoe's door with Southern grace and charm. And if you’re lucky, you’ll se her join Ronnie on stage to add with her beautiful voice to a song or two. Together they strive to define BuddyRoe's just as its name does...a Southern friend.
Other nights you’ll find the best local bands and musicians taking over the stage. Music and fun are accompanied by wonderful food. In July of 2009, the New York Post featured BuddyRoe's in their paper and called our Flavored Shrimp Baskets, "just short of miraculous."
BuddyRoe's supports the local shrimpers by purchasing fresh shrimp right off the dock at Shem Creek. Needless to say the shrimp are outrageous. The burgers are also exceptional with hot fries, sweet potato fries, or beer battered onion rings. Treat yourself to an evening at BuddyRoe's with dinner, fine entertainment, and dancing. The fun-loving, Key West atmosphere is sure to highlight your vacation and it's where the locals hang.
So join us, we bet you’ll be back again and again!
